Breaking the Silence on Menstrual Hygiene
As part of our commitment to health education beyond the field, Afya Nzuri Network launched an online awareness campaign focused on menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
Campaign Goals
- Educate communities about menstruation as a natural, healthy bodily function
- Share practical tips on proper menstrual hygiene
- Promote the use of reusable sanitary pads as an affordable and sustainable solution
- Reduce stigma and negative social norms that keep girls out of school during their periods
Key Messages Shared
- Menstruation is normal — every girl and woman experiences it, and there is nothing shameful about it
- Proper hygiene matters — using clean materials, changing regularly, and washing hands prevents infections
- Reusable pads save money — girls trained in our Kyempara medical camp now make their own pads and teach others
- School attendance improves — when girls have access to sanitary products, they stay in school
Impact
The campaign was shared across our social media platforms on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok, sparking conversations and encouraging community members to support menstrual health initiatives.
