Why We Launched This Campaign
During our medical camp at Kyempara Health Center III in December 2024, the screening results were alarming:
- 46 out of 130 people screened were hypertensive — many had no idea
- 4 people were diagnosed with diabetes for the first time
- 1 woman tested positive for cervical pre-cancer and was referred for further care
- A significant number of community members had never had their blood pressure or blood sugar checked
These findings revealed a critical gap in awareness and health-seeking behaviour that needed urgent attention beyond the field.
What We Shared
Our digital campaign focused on five core messages:
- Know your blood pressure — hypertension often has no symptoms but can lead to stroke and heart disease
- Check your blood sugar — diabetes is manageable when detected early
- Screen for cervical cancer — simple tests can save lives when done regularly
- Lifestyle matters — reducing salt intake, staying active, and managing stress help prevent NCDs
- Seek care early — regular check-ups are essential; do not wait for symptoms
Community Response
The campaign reached hundreds of people across Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok. Community members shared personal stories and encouraged neighbours to visit their nearest health facility for screening.
