The Problem We Are Addressing
Across many communities in Uganda, menstruation remains surrounded by stigma and misinformation. Girls miss school, face social exclusion, and lack access to affordable sanitary products. Period poverty is not just a hygiene issue — it is a barrier to education and opportunity.
Campaign Goals
Our online awareness campaign targeted four objectives:
- Educate communities about menstruation as a natural, healthy bodily function
- Share practical tips on proper menstrual hygiene to prevent infections
- Promote reusable sanitary pads as an affordable, sustainable solution
- Reduce stigma and the negative social norms that keep girls out of school
What We Shared Online
The campaign highlighted key messages across our social media channels:
- Menstruation is normal — every girl and woman experiences it, and there is nothing shameful about it
- Proper hygiene matters — using clean materials, changing regularly, and washing hands prevents infections
- Reusable pads save money — the 49 girls trained at our Kyempara medical camp now make their own pads and teach others
- School attendance improves — when girls have access to sanitary products, they stay in school and perform better
Impact and Reach
The campaign was shared on Facebook, X, and TikTok, sparking conversations and encouraging community members to support menstrual health initiatives in their own neighbourhoods.
